What happens after you buy a number
Octone attaches the number to Call Control for inbound voice and to the SMS profile when the platform is configured.
You do not need to visit a carrier portal for a normal buy. From Admin → Phone numbers, purchase is enough.
Voice (Call Control)
Octone orders the DID onto the platform Call Control app so inbound calls hit Octone’s voice webhook. The number is saved for this tenant and used to look up your company when someone dials it.
Then:
- Build or activate a menu at Inbound IVR — see Inbound IVR builder.
- If no playbook is LIVE, callers still get the default welcome. See Fallback if no playbook is active.
SMS
Bought numbers are stored with SMS on. When the platform has a messaging profile configured, Octone attaches that profile so inbound/outbound texts can use the DID.
Use Admin → SMS to compose and read the inbox. See SMS inbox and send.
Confirm it in Octone
On Phone numbers, Tenant numbers should list the E.164 with SMS on. Place a test call to that number and check Call log.
If inbound does not ring the IVR, or SMS does not land, contact the landlord — that is platform wiring, not something a tenant admin sets in Octone.
